Urgent Safety Notice: Rifton TRAM and E-Pacer Body Support Strap Recall

December 22, 2025

At Binson's Medical Equipment & Supplies, our commitment to your safety and independence has been our cornerstone since 1953. We are sharing an important voluntary safety notice from Rifton Equipment regarding the body support strap used with the Rifton TRAM and E-Pacer.

If you or an individual you care for uses these devices for seated transfers, standing, or gait training, please review the following information immediately to ensure continued safe use.

Why is this recall happening?

Rifton Equipment has received reports of the body support strap fraying, which presents a serious risk of falling. This issue is caused by certain aluminum stampings that secure the strap to the body support system. Some of these components were manufactured with edges slightly sharper than intended, which can abrade the strap material over time.

To date, there have been 15 reports of this failure mode, including two reports of concussions.

Affected Products and Manufacture Dates

This Recall: Rifton TRAM & E-Pacer impacts the following specific models and manufacture dates:

  • K310 and K320 Rifton TRAM: Manufactured between July 4, 2012, and April 4, 2018.
  • K660 E-Pacer: Manufactured between June 12, 2017, and April 5, 2018.
  • All TRAM and E-Pacer units: Manufactured between March 6, 2019, and November 2, 2020.

How to locate your ID code: You can find the device ID code under the horizontal mast, just below the product label. For TRAM units ordered before November 2013, check under the left leg.

Immediate Action Steps for Users

Your safety is our priority. We recommend that individuals who use a wheelchair or similar mobility aids and their caregivers perform an immediate inspection:

  1. Inspect the Strap: Pull down on the body support strap and check both ends for any visible signs of fraying.
  2. Determine Safety for Use:
    • If you see fraying: Discontinue use of the device immediately until the body support is replaced.
    • If no fraying is visible: You may temporarily continue using the device until your replacement kit arrives.
  3. Request Your Free Replacement Kit: Contact Rifton directly at 888-473-8012 (Monday–Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EST). They will provide a free Replacement Kit to resolve the issue.

About the Replacement Kit

The repair is designed to be straightforward and typically takes less than 20 minutes to complete. The kit includes:

  • A new body support assembly and necessary hardware (bolts, nuts, and linkage arm).
  • Required tools (two 9/16” wrenches).
  • An updated product manual.

The person responsible for the device will need to remove the old body support, discard it, and install the new assembly using the provided instructions.
