Snoring

Snoring is a problem which may affect, to some degree, approximately 45% of adults. There are basically 2 types of snoring; the type that is caused by a blocked and/or stuffy nose (usually to allergies or colds) and the type which comes from throat vibrations.
Habitual throat snoring can be a sign of serious health conditions usually referred to as "sleep apnea". A person who snores more than usual, awakens frequently during the night or who feels exhausted during the day, should talk to their doctor, and be tested for sleep apnea. The possibility of heart problems should be examined, since it may lead to reducing a persons life expectancy.

Could you have diabetes and not know it?
There are 20.8 million Americans with Diabetes - and nearly one-third of them (or 6.2 million people) don’t know it! Take this test to see if you are at risk for having diabetes. Diabetes is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. If you are a member of one of these ethnic groups, you need to pay special attention to this test.
To find out if you are at risk, write in the points next to each statement that is true for you. If a statement is not true, write a zero. Then add all the points to get your total score.

Scoring 3-9 points
You are probably at low risk for having diabetes now. But don’t forget about it - especially if you are Hispanic/Latino, African American, American Indian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander. You may be at higher risk in the future.
Scoring 10 or more points
You are at greater risk for having diabetes. Only your health care provider can determine if you have diabetes. At your next office visit, find out for sure. |

Frequently Asked Questions!
Q. What is HIPAA?
A. HIPPA stands for, the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996. It mandates how information about you may be used, disclosed and how you get access to your medical records. It is intended to help safeguard patient information. More details can be found at www.cms.gov
Q. When does Medicare require a Diabetes Testing Log?
A. Generally, if you are being treated with insulin injections and use more than 100 test strips & lancets per month a testing log will be needed. If you are being treated with oral medications or diet & use more than 100 test strips and lancets every 3 months, a testing log will be needed. These are Medicare guidelines that all suppliers have to follow. More details can be found at www.cms.gov
Q. Can you tell me how much Medicare reimburses you before my claim is submitted?
A. No, generally there are to many variables to say for sure how much providers will be paid on your claims. Medicare pays all providers the same amount based on allowables. No matter how much your insurance is billed, only the allowable amount will be considered for payment. In most cases Medicare will pay 80% of the allowable amount. Any co-pays or deductibles are not covered by Medicare, but may be picked up by a secondary insurance.
