Our founder, John Dickinson Schneider, established his company in Chicago
in 1921 as a printing shop later called JDS Printer Craftsman, Inc. The company
was built on a solid reputation for quality and service. His underlying principle
was “Only First Class is Good Enough” and that principle carried over into
a philosophy of quality products, quality service and quality people.
MotherBaby Care
For over 80 years Hollister has offered quality products for mothers and babies.
Beginning with heirloom quality birth certificates, Hollister began its journey
in the development of new and innovative MotherBaby Care products. Early
in this journey, a need for a patient identification (ID) system that could be used
throughout the hospital was recognized and a product line was developed.
The innovative Ident-A-Band Patient Identification Bracelet set the standard
for patient ID in North America.
Soon after the ID band came to market, Hollister went on to develop the
Dry Plate FootPrinter to help delivery room nurses make clear, reliable prints
of the newborn’s feet. Other Labor and Delivery products followed including
hospital signage systems, the PlastiBell Circumcision Device, the AmniHook
Amniotic Membrane Perforator and a medical documentation system. Perhaps
the best-known Hollister obstetric product, the Double-Grip Umbilical Cord Clamp,
has since given more than 100 million babies a healthy start in life! Each one
of these obstetric products have helped the name Hollister become synonymous
with quality products designed to simplify and improve the Labor and Delivery
experience for both healthcare professionals and new families.
In the late 1990’s, Hollister broadened the MotherBaby Care portfolio to
include the well respected breastfeeding products and accessories sold under
the Ameda brand. With women facing time constraints and tight work schedules,
Ameda products help nursing mothers return to their active lifestyles by making
it convenient and comfortable to continue providing their babies with breast milk.
This was a natural fit with the already flourishing obstetrics line of products and
allowed Hollister to move forward in the birth experience continuum.
